7:30 Tuesday March 3rd I put Jaden to bed. He's fine perfectly happy and healthy.
9:30 same night I hear coughing coming from his room. I think "hmm, that's weird, he wasn't coughing earlier but still think nothing of it.
12:30 Jaden comes into my room, he is burning up! Can't find thermometer but I give him Ibuprofen. He sleeps next to be. As I'm laying there I realize his breathing is labored and he seems to be in pain. I ask him if he can breath and he says he can. I ask him if he hurts and he says yes, he lifts his shirt and points to his ribs, "this side hurts when I cough,(right side), and this side just hurts (left side)." At that point I remember the conversation I had with a friend who told me her son was diagnosed with Pneumonia. I lay in bed for a while thinking about it. "is it possible?, am I just freaking out about nothing?, is pneumonia even contagious? I can't sleep.
1:30 I get out of bed go down stairs and do some research about phenomena. What I find is that there are a few different kinds, but one kind in particular stands out. The kind that is bacterial says that the symptoms can come on suddenly especially in small children. Not comforted by this I go back to bed. (did I mention Trent was on an over night trip for work?)
6:30 Wednesday March 4th I get up, ask Jaden how he's feeling and he seems to be okay. He is still coughing, but his fever is down. At this point I'm torn. "Am I making something out of nothing?, Should I wait or should I take him to the DR.?" I decide to wait.
8:30 his fever is at 101.5, which for most kids is not that bad, but my kid doesn't usually run a fever. I give him ibuprofen and wait.
9:30 I take his temp and it has not moved. I call the Dr. office. They try to tell me that the fever isn't that bad, but it I want I can bring him in. I make the apptmnt.
10:30 arrive at Dr. Office, Jaden's Ibprhn has finally kicked in and he's bouncing off the walls. I start thinking that maybe I just mad something out of nothing, but hey I at the Dr, I might as well have her look at him.
10:45 Dr. comes in asks what symptoms are I tell her. She checks him out. She starts to listen to his lungs, and asks him to breath. He tries but isn't very good at it so I coach him. She lingers on his lungs for longer than usual. Then she says, there is fluid in his lungs, I am going to treat him for Pneumonia. Okay, so I was right. She prescribes a antibiotic and sends us on our way.
11:00 I get up to the desk and the girl asks what pharmacy we use I tell her and she says the prescription should be ready in 1 hour. I leave feeling a lot better. I know that I caught this in time and that he'll be okay. If I would have waited it could have been a lot worse. I'm glad that I listened to my instant.
12:00 I pack up Jaden and Tatum and head to the pharmacy. When I arrive the pharmacist says that she has not received any prescriptions for Jaden. "WHAT!?" Sorry, maybe you can call the Dr. Office. I am very, very mad, because I know what happened. This would be the 3rd time that they called the prescription to the wrong pharmacy. I call the Dr. office and oh yeah, they were at lunch until 1:00. Now I'm furious! Don't they understand that my little boy is really sick?! HE HAS PNEUMONIA!!!!! This isn't something you mess around with. It can go from bad to worse FAST! I head home and have Jaden lay down. He starts to peak again. I realize as the day goes on that his fever is getting higher and he's getting more lethargic.
1:00 I call the Dr. office. Yea, I went to the pharmacy and my prescription was not there. "o yea I'm sorry it was called to the wrong pharmacy." "(it a not so nice voice)yeah! I know this is the 3rd time this has happened." "Oh I'm sorry I'll talk to the girl, and I just called it in". So now I have to wait another hour.
1:45 take Madisen to dance and head straight to the pharmacy. On the way Jaden falls asleep.
2:00 pick up Jaden meds. Drive back to dance class and wait in parking lot.
2:45 Jaden wakes up. I give him his Meds. It was scary to see, how much worse he got in 3 short hours. But I'm glad he got his Meds.
Rest of the day goes good.
7:30 bed time.
Thursday March 5th
12:00 in comes Jaden, "mommy I threw up." I make a bed for him on the floor. He precedes to throw up all night long.
At one point he lays down after throwing up and says. "That's it! I've had it with this!" I couldn't help but laugh.
6:30 he wakes up and throws up 1 last time.
His prescription is AZithromycin this is only given once a day. And has to be given at the exact same time everyday.
He seems fine and his fever is down. I start to think that maybe all the vomit was his bodies way of getting the crap out of his lungs. He's playing normally.
2:00 his fever starts to go up again. Last dose of Ibprhn was at 4:30 a.m. so I give him some I phrophen and I fudge and give him his meds at that time to.
Friday March 6th
8:00 Fever 101.5 ibprhn.
feels better long enough to make a big mess.
11:00 says he wants to lay down, not normal behavior.
12:30 feel him and realize he is burning up. Take temp. 103.9
Dr. office is closed for lunch. I can't give him more ibprhn he just had some 4 hours ago. Look for Tylenol don't have any. Strip him down, put cold wash clothes on him. It helps a little but he is still really hot.
1:00 Call Dr. talk to front desk person. Tell her what going on. Tells me that Dr. will call in 20 mins, but before hanging up she says, 103.9 is still not that high for a kid his age. Does anyone else get as mad as I do when they hear this? Because it pissed me off. HELLO! MY SON HAS PNEMONIA!! He has been on antibiotics for 3 days now and his temp is 103.9! SOMETHING IS NOT RIGHT!
1:20 Dr. Calls, talks to me about Jaden and his symptoms, tells me that is sounds like he is not responding to the med, and prescribes me something else. Well, at least the Dr. doesn't think I'm crazy. He also tells me that if he continues with the fever and/or vomits through the night that I should take him in. Hmm! I think he was definitely not thinking I was crazy.
2:30 I go and pick up his meds. Come home and give him his 1st dose.
7:00 his temp is still at 101.6, he's really lethargic. I decide that he needs a blessing. Trent calls our home teacher. He comes over and He and Trent give Jaden a blessing.
Today is Sunday March 8th and we've been fever free for 2 days! I am so grateful for my intuition and that I listened to it. I am so grateful that the Dr. listened to my intuition. I am so grateful to have a friend who has been through this and helped me through it. I am so grateful that I have a worthy Priesthood holder in my home. Most of all I am so grateful that my little boy didn't end up in the hospital.

I am so happy to hear that.. I was going to call you yesterday but I thought I was bugging you calling all the time checking up on him. So I am really glad you wrote about it. Well I hope he keeps getting better. I am glad to have been able to answer your questions. Call me anytime... Tell Jaden i am glad he is feeling better.
Holy cow, girl! I feel your pain acutely. Too much of that sounded familiar - the middle of the night research, the mess at the pharmacy (why is it always during the lunch break?), the medical personel not thinking it is a big deal, watching helplessly as your child gets sicker and sicker! I am so sorry, but I am SO glad you stuck to your guns and got it resolved! Yeah!
That is the hardest thing about being a mom. When our kids are sick! You really handled your self well. I will call you the next time one of my girls are sick! Hug Jaden for me :)
P.S Bri has been sick too lately. I'm feeling the sleep deprivation
Wow, what a roller coaster ride. Glad to hear he is better.
Wow. I'm glad you followed your gut on that one. It could've been so much worse. I'm so glad I read all that. I've never known the symptoms for pnemonia.
So glad little Jaden is feeling better, now cross your fingers that no on else gets it... talk to you soon.
I am so sorry you guys had to deal with this...that is really scarey! It seems that things always happen when husbands are out of town! I am glad Jaden is feeling better!!
