Christmas Gifts!!!!!!!!!!!!
My kids are getting too much for Christmas. Trent and I have a very bad habit, that is we buy our kids too much for xams. We both grew up with huge Christmas's and so we've perpetuated the problem by giving our kids big Christmas's. This year we decided that we would tone it down and not get as much. Did that happen? No, of course not, they are still getting 6 gifts each. 3 from Santa and 3 from mom and dad. But the worst part is, Trent's dad just sent the 1st installment of Christmas gifts for my kids and there are 4 gifts for both of them, and there are more coming? Then they have the 2 gifts that my mom is giving them, plus the gift from my sister and one from my brother. OH yeah my Aunt bought them a gift as well. Did I mention that my kids are the first 2 out 4 grandchildren on both sides. Plus my Aunt does not have grandchildren and never will. So my kids are the closest she'll get. And they only have 1 cousin on each side. Can you say over indulged? They are going to have more than they know what to do with. They are very grateful kids and they love to play with toys so it's been easy to justify but I think things have gotten out of control. Next year we will make some big adjustments.

Holy Cow! I bet they love it though! It is so hard when Christmas comes around because I always feel like there isn't enought but then on Christmas morning you realize you have way over done it. I forget about the presents that come from Gma's and Gpa's and other family members. This year I think we have done good though.
My dad has a nasty habit of giving one kid per year something completely over the top. How can my little Christmas ever compare?
When you figure out how to NOT over indulge, please post for the rest of us (me, in particular). I think I'm doing good till I wrap everything and stick it under the tree and by then it's too late. It's a sickness. But I love it!!
It's true...you set a limit and then always have to go over by 1 present, or so. Because you never remember the grandparents additions (and I have a divorced set) so that adds a bunch more...as long as you can afford it, right? No one needs to go into debt over toys!
We have this problem with our children too. I wish I could say he was ONLY getting 6. I can't stop. He asks for something and I feel like he has to have it... ya know... because it's CHRISTMAS! Ugh. I need to stop.
Sounds like we are all struggling with this. But hey! It's so fun! Bring on the gifts!
Tell them they won't get as many presents when they stop believing in Santa...an ideal time to scale back.
No one ever told me that it was so much fun to buy presents for your kids at Christmas. I want to buy EVERYTHING. I try to justify it by saying it's partially for me because it will entertain the kids longer (without watching tv) and make my life easier. At least your kids are grateful...that's what's important.
