Weekend Getaway!

We took the kids to Santa Cruz on Friday and stayed at the Dream Inn Hotel. It was so nice. Our room had a patio that opened up to the pool and the pool had stairs that led to the beach. Who could ask for more. My kids were in heaven their 2 favorite things to do are swim and go to the beach. The weather was perfect and the pool was heated to a lovely 85 degrees. Too bad mom forgot her swim suit. But rest assured the kids and dad got a lot of use out of the pool.

yes they got into the freezing cold ocean.
On Saturday we drove to Roaring Camp and took the train through the redwoods. It was beautiful!

Tatum was excited to ride the train and couldn't stop talking about it, but as soon as we lined up she started to think about how loud the train might be. Needless to say she had a rough start.

Eventually she warmed up and couldn't wait for the next surprise...

As we rode through the red woods it was so breath taking.
It was a thick grove of trees with light beaming through, I couldn't help
but hum the song Oh How Lovely was the Morning. It made think of what
the grove that Joseph Smith prayed in might look like.

Pumpkins!!!! The train stopped at a pumpkin patch where
the kids each got to choose a pumpkin.

On Sunday we took the kids to the city to see the Blue Angeles but it was a fiasco! We didn't take in account that every other person in the bay area would be heading to the city as well and it took us forever to get there and then there was no parking So we left the city.... and decided to go to Jack London Square instead. It was a good rebound. It was quite and low key and the kids loved throwing rocks into the bay.

I'm going to copy this mini-vaca. We've always wanted to do that railroad and never have! Now I want to do it before Halloween so we can get pumpkins! Looks like you guys had a great time. Maybe when we go we'll even stay in the same hotel. Glad you had good weather too!
